Here's a useful hack for the Mule ESB.  The HTTP/REST receiver is "too
integrated" in that it generates a UMOMessage whose properties are the
post parameters.  Which is a huge security hole, but, more urgently, means
that simple components cannot access the values.

This gets the "foo" parameter and returns it as a String payload:

  import org.mule.umo.UMOEventContext;
  import org.mule.umo.UMOMessage;
  import org.mule.umo.lifecycle.Callable;

  public class UglyHack implements Callable {

    public Object onCall(UMOEventContext context) {
        UMOMessage message = context.getMessage();
        String[] foos = (String[])message.getProperty("foo");
        return foos[0];
    }
  }
