Ultra-Capacitors; Trainers

I remember first learning about elesctronics and thinking that a Farad was
a really stupid unit because it was way too large - typical capacitor
sizes being measured in micro and pico values. So I had to re-read this
page - 3,000 F. That's 3 kilo-Farads.

Some informed comments (wow - on AskMe) here -

Also, I am in Tucson at the moment (staying in the appalling Viscount
Suite - old, yellow/brown/"gold" colour scheme, dark and dingy and
decaying - I had asked for a place in a Bed + Breakfast, but, well, that's
now how NOAO works; please, someone, offer me a job) and bought a new pair
of trainers (running shoes). They're Asics Cumulus, which is the same
mode I've used for the last 10 years or so, although they keep updating
the styling. Anyway, the point of this is: the upper appears to be some
kind of one-piece plastic. From the outside it's not that clear, because
it's covered in a kind of mesh, but the mesh is supported by a sub-layer,
which seems to be a thin foam-like (ie not woven, but porous) sheet,
formed into the right shape (no seams).

Technology moves on...

Andrew
