Just opened a bottle of this.  It really is excellent.  Exceptionally
fruity and balanced.  Best glass of wine I've had in a long time and a
complete surprise.

It's curious - the last time I was as happy with a wine was when I
confused a Cousino Macul Don Matias with a Don Luis (ie thought I had paid
non-reserve price for what tasted like (and actually was!) a reserve
wine).  And I wasn't particularly looking forwards to this (I don't know
the vinyard and am not that keen on Merlot).  So perhaps my response to
wine is mainly based on how it exceeds my expectations, rather than
anything absolute (which might also explain my pretty average response to
a bottle of 2004 Odfjell Orzada, probably the most expensive wine I've
knowingly had here (although it was a Carignan, which doesn't have a great
reputation, so perhaps it was just that).
