## Positive Report on Venezuelan Economy

This is interesting - my impression has been that the Chavez regime was a
populist disaster, with much corruption and a general failure to do
anything outside of gesture politics.

However, apart from inflation, these are impressive numbers -

One can argue that anyone can be a success in a boom, but (1) I am not
sure how true that is and (2) I didn't think Chavez was a success anyway
(so I was thinking he was worse than average, if you like).

My main worry is the source of the figures.  A report I read somewhere a
year back was pretty critical of government numbers and my initial
impression is that the sources for the data here are nt particualrly
independent, but I could easily be wrong there.
