A tiny hole in a pipe at a nuclear power plant led to a large investigation
over sabotage fears, but the authorities have closed the case as an unsolved
act of vandalism, the F.B.I. said. “No one is being charged unless more
evidence becomes available,” said Judy Orihuela, a bureau spokeswoman. An
1/8-inch hole was discovered in March 2006 in a cooling system pipe at the
Turkey Point power plant, operated by Florida Power and Light. The F.B.I. sent
50 agents to interview more than 700 workers. An out-of-state contractor hired
to do routine maintenance is suspected of drilling the hole, Ms. Orihuela
said.
