The BaBar detector was built at SLAC to study the millions of B mesons
produced by the PEP-II storage ring - http://www.slac.stanford.edu/BFROOT/

The BaBar Database System provides data persistency for the BaBar project.
The system acts as an interface between about 5 million lines of custom
written C++ code and a commercial Object Oriented Database System
(Objectivity/DB), all running on 2000 CPUs and 100 servers.  This database
is arguably the largest in the world: as of Tue Jan 13 00:01:11 2004, over
895.0 TB has been stored in 847149 files -
