The police: Unaccountable, secretive and out of control

From: "andrew cooke" <andrew@...>

"The days when officers could rely on the unquestioning trust and respect
of the public are over. There has been too much misconduct, dissembling
and secrecy over the years. Only an injection of accountability and
wholesale reform can restore faith in those charged with delivering our
safety."

To be honest, I think that's optimistic.

Dead from beating?

From: "andrew cooke" <andrew@...>

Date: Fri, 17 Apr 2009 13:42:36 -0400 (CLT)

I've just heard that the cause of death has been changed to abdominal
bleeding. This is from a second autopsy that wouldn't have happened if
the camera footage had not turned up calling the police's actions into
question.

Turns out the first autopsy was by a police examiner.

What the fuck do they think they are playing at?

And now this news on a Friday, traditional time to release news that
someone hopes will be forgotten by the end of the weekend....
