Guardian Censored over Trafigura Questions

From: andrew cooke <andrew@...>

Date: Tue, 13 Oct 2009 11:32:27 -0300

A UK company called Trafigura tried to make money quick and caused a
(predictable) pollution disaster. They are now trying like crazy to
cover things up - the latest attempt being a gagging order on the
Guardian to stop them reporting questions asked in Parliament
(traditionally these questions cannot be gagged and, thankfully, the
restriction appears just to have been listed).

The report that the questions were related to included the conclusion:
"The compounds listed above are capable of causing sever human health
effects [...] All of these effects were as reported in this incident".
It is available at Wikileaks -
http://www.wikileaks.com/wiki/Minton_report:_Trafigura_Toxic_dumping_along_the_Ivory_Coast_broke_EU_regulations,_14_Sep_2006

Trafigura Now Attacking BBC

From: andrew cooke <andrew@...>

Date: Sun, 13 Dec 2009 16:54:16 -0300

Same thing now happening with the BBC, apparently -
http://www.wikileaks.org/wiki/BBC_deletes_important_story_on_toxic_waste_dumping_in_the_Ivory_Coast_after_legal_threats%2C_12_Dec_2009

"It is the biggest toxic dumping scandal of the 21st century, the type
of environmental vandalism that international treaties are supposed to
prevent. Now Newsnight can reveal the truth about the waste that was
illegally tipped on Ivory Coast's biggest city, Abidjan - The
programme alleged that a number of deaths had been caused by the
dumping of this toxic waste, which had originated with Trafigura."
